P1/P8 RFOU Cable

RFOU cable is a flame retardant offshore power cable, which means it is chemically processed to resist against fire, to burn slow, and is self-extinguishing.

You can use the RFOU cable for power and control on the offshore units and ships, as well as for lightening these facilities with fixed installations.

RFOU cables pass several tests set by the IEC standards for the offshore power cable to meet the quality.

For example, it meets the IEC 60032-3-22 standard that is set to describe cable’s performance against high temperature.

This is a test for a vertical flame spread in case the cable is vertically mounted in the form of bunched cables.

Here are the codes used for different materials used in the RFOU and BFOU cables

• B: For halogen-free fire-resistant tape insulation around the conductor.
• R: For halogen-free Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR).
• T: For Cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE)
• U: For halogen-free thermostat compound EVA or EMA used in insulation  
• F: For halogen-free inner covering
• X: For no armor used
• O: For tinned copper wire braid for armor
• C: For galvanized steel wire braid
• U: For halogen-free thermoset compound SHF 2 and mud-resistant thermoset compound SHF Mud for outer sheath.

RFOU cable structure

• Conductor: tinned standard copper. class 2 IEC 60228
• Insulation: halogen-free EPR (Ethylene Propylene Rubber).
• Inner Covering: halogen-free compound.
• Braid Armor: tinned copper wire braid.  
• Outer Sheath: SHF2 or SHF Mud. Made of mud resistant thermosetting compound, which is also low smoke, halogen-free, and non-corrosive.
