BFOU cable features fire resistant which means it is made of materials that are nonflammable. This makes BFOU cable fire resistant, as they don’t melt or drip even when exposed to fire.

You can use BFOU cable for emergency control, power, and lightning of offshore facilities with a fixed installation. BFOU cable meets the IEC 60331 standard.

BFOU cable code meaning

B: For halogen-free fire-resistant tape insulation around the conductor.
F: For halogen-free inner covering
O: For tinned copper wire braid for armor
U: For halogen-free thermoset compound SHF 2 or mud-resistant thermoset compound SHF Mud for outer sheath

BFOU cable structure

Conductor: tinned standard copper, class 2 IEC 60228
Insulation: mica tape + halogen-free EPR (Ethylene Propylene Rubber)
Inner Covering: halogen-free compound.
Armor: tinned copper wire braid
Outer Sheath: SHF2 or SHF Mud

BFOU cable standards

IEC 60092-353: For offshore power and control cables 0.6/1kV.
IEC 60092-350: For power, control, and instrumentation cables for electrical installations on ships and offshore facilities.
IEC 60331: Test for power cables against the temperature of at least 830 C.
IEC 60332-1-2: Tests for power cables under fire conditions to check resistance against vertical flame propagation for a single insulated wire.
IEC 60032-3-22: For offshore cable’s performance against high temperature.
IEC 60754-1/2: Tests for the toxic gases produced during the combustion of these cables.
IEC 61034: Tests for the smoke density of burning cables.
